Interior shot

Description: Scene of S18 Wounding.
Issue – view of witness into the back bar where the assault took place.
Tripod long exposure using the pub lights as were on at the time of the assault.

Available lighting

Issue - the quality of the view at night from the witness’s bedroom with the window open.
Tripod long exposure with the exposure point being the lighting outside.

Line of Sight

Description: View from witness’s office towards scene of a burglary
Issue – what could the witness see of the flat that was being burgled?
Hand held from the same seat as the witness had sat and with the window open (as per his statement).

Plan

Description:  Plan of the interior of a public house
Issue – to establish the lay out of the rooms, the position of the witnesses and the position of the photographs taken.
Drawn using computer software from measurements taken at the scene.

Stolen Car

Description: Renault Meganne
Issue – the current condition of the car that had been seized and impounded in a scrap yard.
Handheld (using a ladder to get into a position to take the image).

Crime Scene

Description: Crime scene in a rape case
Issue – to establish the area in question and the proximity of the flats, footpaths and the position of witnesses.
Handheld, one of a series of pictures, plans and maps used to show the scene.

Eye Witness

Description: Witness’s view from a window
Issue - the quality of the view from the office given the blinds in the window.
Handheld with the blinds down and exposure set for the view outside.

Shooting

Issue – what could the witness on the pavement see in respect of the suspect leaving the scene of a shooting.
Handheld from the position described by the witness at same time of day and similar weather conditions.

Looking inside

Issue- what could be seen through the kitchen window with the blind down and the room lit at night.
 Tripod and long exposure with exposure set to the ambient light out in the street.

Mast Shot

Issue- to establish a wide area view of a murder scene to help position witnesses
Use of a 17m mast and a digital camera linked to a laptop.

Scar Tissue

Issue – to demonstrate the extent of scaring in a burns case.
Hand held but using studio lighting. No scale in this shot to show nothing covered up (one of a series of pictures).

Close up Photography

Needle photographed using close up lens to demonstrate the sharpness and character of a hyperdermic shringe. The same equipment can show the serated nature of knives, reveal debris and blood etc.
